Water Canal Boardwalk

"Walking from Tolerance Bridge to Ras al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary".

This walk of 10 kilometers, is also know as the Dubai Water Canal Boardwalk. It starts from the Tolerance Bridge and the path takes you all the way through Business Bay and Dubai Design District.

We went early in the morning, and we saw almost no people although we were pretty much in the heart of the city (for sure Ramadan also plays a role here). It is a lovely walk where we saw Dubai awakening.

Tolerance Bridge (2017)

The Tolerance Bridge is opened on November 16 2017, on the International Day for Tolerance. It is the first (and only) clear span suspension bridge in Dubai and it is about 210 meters long to cross over the Dubai Water Canal (also knows as Dubai Creek). It is a beautiful bridge and an architectural masterpiece.

Dubai Creek

Khor Dubai (Dubai Creek in English) is a natural seawater inlet of the Arabian Gulf located in the heart of Dubai with about 26 kilometers length and between 100-500 meters width. The Khor Dubai used to run from the Persian Gulf to the Ras al Khor nature park, but it has now been extended and runs back into the Persian Gulf via Business Bay. We walked along this last stretch (the extension part). There is also a water taxi with stops on both sides of the canal but at the time we were walking, it it didn't seem operational.

Business Bay (2003)

Business Bay is a central business district in Dubai. The project includes numerous skyscrapers in an area along a new extension of Dubai Creek stretching from Ras Al Khor Natural Park to Sheikh Zayed Road. It is the ultimate area for architecture enthusiasts with an eternal view of the Burj Khalifa....

Many restaurants along the route...

Dubai Design District (2013)

The striking, avant-garde Dubai Design District is famous for its fashion and design festivals and for its chic galleries showcasing work by talented designers and artists. Lunch and artisan coffee are served on trendy terraces, while slick restaurants offer creative variations on classic Mediterranean dishes. Nearby is the Ras al Khor Game Reserve, a swamp area where migratory birds such as flamingos and herons live. We didn't go into the district (click below for our blog), we walked along the D3 Skate Park and Children's play area.

Almost at the end.... (the birds sanctuary)

Flamingo sanctuary

Here ended our walking trip, we took a taxi back to our starting point. The flamingo sanctuary was closed, but we visited this place earlier (click below for the blog).
