January 2018 (and many times more)

IMG, Worlds of Adventure

The first year of our expat life in Dubai, we purchased an annual from IMG. We thought that would be fun, it was close to where we lived and it offered many different forms of entertainment. We never regret this purchase, as we went many times. Kids just loved going there during weekends and holidays. IMG, World of Adventure Dubai, is one of world's largest indoor theme parks, full of thrilling rides and experiences! The park offers different, themed areas for young but also older children such as a dinosaur-jungle world, a superheroes world and a comic world with Finn and Jake and the Powerpuff Girls!

Even though everything is indoors, IMG has a fancy interior with cozy restaurant streets and playgrounds for the children, which gave us the feeling of being outside at night. And, of course, it is always nice and cool during the hot season, so we went all year round.

Central Boulevard

The first theme area and the heart of the park is the IMG Boulevard. Here you can find many (not very healthy) restaurants and souvenir shops. There is one attraction in this zone: The Haunted Hotel. Sounds great... we'll save it for last!

Superheroes come to life

We choose the right main street and walk directly to the Marvel zone, a large American city where famous superheroes live, such as Spiderman and The Hulk. Top ride in this zone: the spider man, a really fast rollercoaster: you feel the G-forces from front to back and from top to bottom, very cool!

In the jungle

On our way to the Lost Valley-Dinosaur Adventure, a themed area in a jungle atmosphere. Top ride in this zone is one of the fastest roller coaster in the world, the Velociraptor, where you are shot and go from 0 to 100 km / h in just 2.5 seconds. Fiercely! We come out "transformed" (and traumatized)! Incidentally, this is the only attraction that is outdoor (with indoor start) and the transitions from dark to light and from cool to (extreme) heat give this roller coaster an extra dimension.

Adventure Fortress

In the lost valley, there is a nice play area for the children 'Adventure Fortress', where they can climb and slide.

Drop down

Another roller coaster top ride in this zone: the Predator, with a perpendicular drop down, but after the Velociraptor we let it pass us by. Next time again. We continue to the Forbidden Territory, an attraction based on the famous “Jurassic Park” movies. In the run-up to this attraction, you will be taken into a story of news reporters who provide updates on missing persons and helicoptors. Nicely done!

The Forbidden Territory

In a jeep simulator cart, you will cover a bumpy track through a "forbidden" jungle, past life-size dinosaurs and other extinct prehistoric animals, facing Indiana Jones who tells you not to continue driving. In the pitch-dark "Danger Zone" super-sized spiders crawl down and stop just above your head, and dinosaurs violently kill each other. Well done! Also in this area, you can do the nostalgic dinosaur carousel, always a good laugh :-)

Comic heroes

The last zone is "Cartoon Network", which is especially attractive to very young kids because of the appealing characters and the bright use of colors. We do the "Adventure Time", where we take a fun trip with Finn and Jake through the "Land of Ooo". The cart hangs on the rail (air racer) and goes over and through the Cartoon zone, making clever use of the height of the hall.

5D cinema

Another innovative attraction: Ben 10 5D Herotime. In a cinema setting you will experience a multi-sensory stimulating adventure with Ben & Rook, where your chair moves (tilts back and forth and vibrates) and you feel water and wind during a compelling story. Fun for the whole family.

The Lazy Town & Powerpuff Girls

To round off the day, the kids can let off steam in "The Lazy Town" (a large play, climbing and DIY area). In this area there is also the “Powerpuff Girls Ride” (a raging robot - spicy air racer).

The Haunted Hotel

Warning! This attraction is only accessible from 15+ … We enter an elevator that actually takes us to the haunted hotel. What happens afterwards… formidable. Through a maze of dark corridors and creepy spaces, we meet all kinds of scary characters (actors). Almost at the exit, I am again terribly startled by a scary monk, who lies invisibly on the ground and taps my leg. Phew, very intense, but cool. We understand that this is not for children. Must say, the Haunted Hotel is a bit of an ‘odd one out’ at IMG, but truly a winner.

Daylight

After a long day (and a ride on a bike), we are happy to see daylight again. And there we see our car at a glance in the immense parking lot.
