City trip to Malmö

We went for a short city trip to Malmö, a super friendly city. The city of Malmö is located in the south of Sweden and offers interesting architecture, nice coffee shops, fancy restaurants and historical squares.

Sightseeing Malmö

Malmö is the largest city in the region Skåne and the third-largest city of Sweden after Stockholm and Goteborg. The city has a compact center. We did a short half day trip to this city and drove from the campsite where we were staying. We parked the car on the edge of the city, near the Turning Torso and explored the city on foot.

Turning Torso

First we went to take a look at the Turning Torso. It is not without reason that Malmö's skyline is dominated by this 190-meter-high architectural masterpiece. It is a striking, twisted skyscraper, with a 90° twist from base to top, in the middle of the Västra Hamnen district, the first CO2-neutral district in Europe. All energy here is generated by wind, solar and water energy. The turning torso is not only the tallest building in Scandinavia, but also a symbol of the city's modern appearance.

Öresund Bridge

Another striking sight from Malmö is the impressive Öresund Bridge. It took a few days to drive over it and from Malmö you can see Copenhagen. From Malmö, the Öresund Bridge is a real eye-catcher.

Funny sculptures

Then we walked to the center of the city and came across the funny sculptures of the 'Optimistorketern'; this series of images is a famous landmark of Malmo located in the city center on Södergatan. It is an ensemble of sculptures representing an orchestra that marches on the pedestrian part of the street. The author of this outrageous sculpture is Yngve Lundell. This artist was born and raised in Malmo and always dreamed of making this city more attractive, so in 1985 he created the famous bronze sculpture. It is a popular spot for taking photos and is loved by both tourists and locals.

Lunchtime

A little further on we arrived at Lila Torg, a pleasant square with beautiful historic buildings. We had lunch and afterwards we walked back to our car and drove back to our camping spot at the Ringsjön Lakes.

Charles X Gustav, also Carl Gustav; he was King of Sweden from 1654 until his death.
